Native Americans

On Wednesday the Kindergarteners learned from a guest speaker. Firebear is a Native American belonging to the Choctaw Nation from Oklahoma. He taught to the students (and teachers) about Native American culture, music, and legend. We heard him play many of his handmade musical instruments including drums, flutes, and rattles. Firebear showed us what a steady beat was and had us clapping out steady beats. He also played two different flutes and we learned that they had different pitches. The smaller flute had a higher pitch. It was really special to get to see all of the things that he brought to show us. At the end of his presentation he told us the story of why rabbits have short tails. Ask your Kindergartener to retell the story for you.
