Happy Groundhog Day!

On Tuesday we read Groundhog Day by Gail Gibbons. The students each made a prediction about whether or not Punxsutawney Phil would see his shadow this year. We compiled our predictions into a pictograph. We counted by 2s to total the votes. Counting by 2s is something that has recently been introduced.

Then, each student used the data from the graph to make a tally chart. One of the objectives in our math unit is for students to be able to make and count tally marks.

On Wednesday, we found out that the majority of the class was right. Phil did not see his shadow! We are looking forward to an early spring.
